Starblast was hardly a mess of a story. It had it's failings but it's direction was blatant and not confused. Compare it to it's contemporaries of The Crossing, Onslaught, First Sign and Atlantis Rising which were legitimately all over the place and any criticisms of Starblast fall down to nitpicks in comparison. But then somehow The Crossing, Onslaught, First Sign and Atlantis Rising all have been released in trades and Starblast becomes nothing but a punchline for you to mock on occasion.

Does this sound like whining to you? It sounds like whining to me.

I’m sure that, given enough time, Starblast will be collected. But blaming us because it stars Quasar and Ikaris and the Soviet Super-Soldiers and Monica Rambeau and so forth rather than characters like the X-Men, the Fantastic Four or the Avengers is perhaps looking for the cause in the wrong place.

I have to say, I have read all of these stories and, out of all of them, Starblast was the biggest mess of a story.

It is by no means high praise to say Atlantis Rising and the Crossing were better than Starblast, but the fact remains that they were.
